The Challenge
Xiaomi needed a self-service solution to help MediaMarkt customers discover their complete product range with real-time stock information, overcoming the challenge of standing out in a multi-brand retail environment where sales staff couldn't always provide instant access to the full catalog.
The Solution
The Xiaomi Sell-App emerged as a partnership between Xiaomi’s brand identity and MediaMarkt’s product database. Designed for 11-inch Android tablets operating in kiosk mode, the application serves as a digital gateway to Xiaomi’s world within MediaMarkt stores.
The Customer Experience
Customers see eight product categories on a clean home screen with Xiaomi's signature orange branding. Tapping a category connects directly to MediaMarkt's e-commerce platform, automatically filtering for in-stock Xiaomi products only. The persistent Xiaomi header maintains brand presence during browsing, and after 30 seconds of inactivity, the app resets to ensure privacy between users.
The Technical Foundation
The app uses four components: a touch-optimized home screen with eight categories, WebView integration that embeds filtered MediaMarkt pages, a persistent Xiaomi header, and an inactivity monitor for automatic 30-second resets. Tablets run in always-on kiosk mode with continuous internet connectivity for real-time product data.
The Implementation
The initial deployment targets six tablets across key MediaMarkt locations using sideload installation for controlled, customized setup. The architecture supports unlimited scalability for future expansion.
The Impact
The app benefits all stakeholders: customers gain self-service product discovery, MediaMarkt reduces staff workload while enhancing the in-store experience, and Xiaomi maintains consistent brand presence in a multi-brand environment. Its always-on, self-resetting design ensures reliable operation without staff intervention.
